Ayurveda Where River Meets Sea

Poovar Island Resort occupies a green island of about 25 acres of coconut palms where the Neyyar backwaters reach the Arabian Sea, close to the southern tip of Kerala. Open since 2000, the resort is best known for its floating cottages on the lagoon and for an Ayurveda centre that runs full therapeutic programmes, making it a peaceful base for a cure combined with nature.

Location

The resort lies at Pozhiyoor near Poovar, about 30 km south of Thiruvananthapuram. There is no road access: guests are taken by boat from the Poovar jetty, a short ride through mangrove-lined waterways. The nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport, approx. 34 km or 45–60 minutes by car; airport and boat transfers are included in the Ayurveda packages. A golden sandbar beach separates the lagoon from the open sea.

Accommodation

Guests can choose between floating cottages moored on the backwaters, superior land cottages in the gardens, cottages in the dedicated Ayurveda Village, and Ayurveda suites or premium land cottages. Rooms have a tea and coffee maker; air conditioning is available as an option.

Ayurveda Treatments

The Ayurveda programmes include doctor consultations, daily therapies, massages and medicines, with rejuvenation and body purification prescribed individually by the physician. Main packages are Panchakarma for stress management (minimum 14 days), Panchakarma for weight management (minimum 21 days) and a rejuvenation & regeneration course (minimum 14 days). A Russian-speaking interpreter assists at the first and last consultation. Daily yoga takes place from 7 to 8 am, and all meals follow an Ayurvedic menu on full board. Packages also include a sunset cruise on the backwaters, a visit to the Chenkal Shiva temple and a half-day sightseeing tour of Thiruvananthapuram.
