Glimpses of Karnataka is the shortest journey of the Golden Chariot: three nights on board that bring together wildlife, royal palaces and one of India's greatest ruined cities. From Bengaluru the train takes you to Bandipur National Park for a game drive, to the palace city of Mysore and to Hampi, the old capital of the Vijayanagara empire – ideal for travellers with limited time or as an add-on to a longer South India tour.

Itinerary

Check in at Yeshwantpur railway station in Bengaluru in the morning, where you are welcomed on board the Golden Chariot. Lunch is served as the train travels south to Nanjangud. From there you drive to Bandipur National Park, one of the best tiger and elephant reserves in South India, for an afternoon game drive. Return to the train for dinner.

After breakfast visit the magnificent Mysore Palace, the seat of the Wadiyar kings. Return to the train for lunch; in the afternoon there is an optional excursion to Srirangapatna, the island fortress of Tipu Sultan. In the evening dinner is served at a city hotel with cultural performances, before the train continues overnight to Hampi.

Spend the morning among the ruins of Hampi, capital of the Vijayanagara empire and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its temples, royal enclosures and boulder-strewn landscape. After lunch on board there is an optional visit to Anegundi, the older village across the Tungabhadra river. The evening ends with an "Indian Evening" on board and dinner.

Breakfast on board as the train returns to Bengaluru, arriving at Yeshwantpur in the late morning, where the journey ends.
