Nature Cure in the Western Ghats

Prakriti Shakti is a residential health retreat of CGH Earth Wellness, devoted to naturopathy and therapeutic yoga rather than classical Ayurveda. The approach, known in India as Prakruthi Chikitsa or nature cure, works without medicines: earth, water, sunlight, air and fasting are used to support the body's own capacity to heal. The centre is accredited by NABH, India's national board for healthcare providers, and keeps a high ratio of doctors to guests.

Location

The retreat lies at roughly 1,000 metres in the green hills of Panchalimedu, in the Peermade area of Idukki district, on a former plantation of about 16 acres. The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, approx. 115 km or around 3 hours by road; arrival and departure transfers from Kochi are included in the programme. The cool, quiet mountain setting suits guests who want distance from everyday routine.

Accommodation

Guests stay in 19 naturally cooled cottages in three styles: cottages with private balconies set among lush foliage, valley-view cottages with balconies, and valley-view cottages with their own small gardens. Each is simply and comfortably furnished with a spacious bedroom.

Naturopathy & Yoga Therapies

Every programme starts with a medical assessment, and the doctors see each guest daily. Treatments include mud therapy, hydrotherapy, heliotherapy (sun therapy), energy medicine, massage, cupping and physiotherapy, complemented by daily yoga therapy in group and one-to-one sessions and by talks on lifestyle and health. Programmes address detox, weight management, diabetes, stress and sleep problems, digestive and respiratory complaints and women's health. Diet is a central part of the cure: meals are prescribed individually and come from a fireless kitchen serving raw, organic and plant-based food. The minimum stay is 7 nights, and the retreat accepts guests from the age of 14.
