Board the Maharajas' Express at Safdarjung railway station in Delhi, where you are welcomed on board. The train takes you to Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, where you visit the Albert Hall Museum and Amber Fort, set on a hill above Maota Lake. Dinner and overnight on board.
A day in the Pink City, founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1727. Visit the City Palace and the astronomical observatory Jantar Mantar with its giant sundial. In the evening enjoy dinner at an exclusive venue before the train leaves overnight for Sawai Madhopur.
Early morning game drive in Ranthambore National Park, known for its tigers. After brunch on board the train continues to Fatehpur Sikri, Emperor Akbar's red sandstone capital, with the Panch Mahal and the palaces of the royal court. Dinner on board.
Morning visit to the Orchha Fort complex, set between forest and the Betwa river, and a tuk-tuk tour of the village. Continue to Khajuraho to see the Western Group of temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its finely carved sculptures. In the evening an "Indian Evening" on board before the train leaves for Varanasi.
Visit Sarnath, where the Buddha gave his first sermon, and a silk weaving centre known for the famous Banarasi silk. In the evening take a boat ride on the River Ganges and watch the aarti, the fire ceremony on the ghats. The train departs overnight for Delhi.
Brunch on board as the train returns to Delhi, where the journey ends in the early afternoon.
